19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard courts
A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his first title for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.
Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult season, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - caused him falling of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with former mentor his previous coach.
Presently working with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive win over opponent Moutet.
This marks the player's maiden championship after the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt since spring of that year.
Victory also signifies Medvedev has won 21 victories at 21 distinct events.
"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my both daughters at once, so to win a trophy is really nice," stated world number 14 the champion.
"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six finals, including in the German tournament in the past months.
The player's retrieving play style and regular reactions on the playing surface had caused commentators to question if his skill to compete at the elite level was finished.
However the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform positively, backed up by an better serve.
Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult opponent, winning four of the final five points to take the lead.
Both players traded break points in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his initial ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to push for a final set.
He saved 4 early-game chances in a competitive third set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.
Suitably, he earned victory with a shot at the net area, with Moutet unable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
